DescriptionSydney Lough Thompson was born in Oxford, New Zealand in 1877. He studied at the the Canterbury College School of Art and one of his tutors was Petrus van der Velden. He left New Zealand in 1900 for Europe and spent a good deal of time living and painting in France, although he did return to New Zealand on a number of occasions.
